Discover South Africa, Eswatini & Lesotho! This tour through South Africa, Swaziland and Lesotho offers the best of the Garden Route and the traditional African kingdoms for you. Probably the most beautiful journey for adventure beginners and connoisseurs to get to know the south of Africa. The trip takes you from the world-famous Kruger National Park, through the enchanting kingdom formerly known as Swaziland, past dream beaches of the Indian Ocean, via Durban on the Wild Coast and the Drakensberg into the kingdom of heaven, Lesotho. It continues with safari experiences in Addo Elephant Park to the natural spectacles of the Garden Route to Cape Town, a metropolis that, with its cultural diversity, is one of the most popular travel destinations in the whole world.

Daily program: Discover South Africa, Eswatini & Lesotho in the Overland Truck

Day 1: Kruger National Park

After breakfast, we leave the emerging and diverse metropolis of Johannesburg and begin our adventurous experience and safari journey with a drive to Kruger National Park in the north of South Africa. With an area of nearly 20,000 square kilometers, Kruger National Park is one of the largest protected areas in all of Africa. Its diverse wildlife includes the Big Five, and the park also offers breathtaking landscapes and a wealth of activities for visitors. After arriving in the afternoon, the first game drive takes place at sunset.

Day 2: Kruger National Park

After entering the park early in the morning, we spend a full day on safari in open 4x4 safari jeeps. The abundance of wildlife allows for spectacular sightings, especially since Kruger National Park is the home of Africa's famous Big 5. A look at the impressive number of species represented here shows why Kruger Park is the flagship of South African national parks: 336 tree species, 49 fish species, 34 amphibian species, 114 reptile species, 507 bird species, and 147 mammals.

Day 3: Kruger National Park

In the early morning, there is an opportunity for a short hike through Kruger National Park. After breakfast, our adventure journey continues with a short drive to the Panorama Route. The Panorama Route lies between Graskop and the Blyde River Canyon (one of the largest canyons in the world) and offers spectacular views of deep gorges, dense forests, waterfalls, and striking rock formations along its course. After visiting the highlights of Bourke's Luck Potholes, the Three Rondavels, and God's Window, we return to our camp in Kruger National Park in the evening.

Day 4: Kruger National Park - Eswatini (Swaziland)

In the early morning with coffee and traditional Zwieback, we continue our adventure and safari tour towards Swaziland. On the drive, we can once again witness the wildlife of Kruger National Park pass by us from our truck. After crossing the border into the inland kingdom, our way takes us through the enchanting Swazi landscape, consisting of forests and hills, until we reach the Ezulwini Valley south of the capital Mbabane.

Day 5: Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary

The Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary is a 4,560-hectare protected area with diverse landscapes where savannas, rivers, forests, and rock formations can be found. Over endless hours, the area can be explored on foot, as there are few dangerous animals. In the morning, our guide takes us on a nature walk along the Nature Trail, which interprets historical and ecological information about the region.

Day 6: Eswatini (Swaziland) to St Lucia

With many breathtaking impressions, we leave the heartwarming kingdom of Swaziland after breakfast and cross the border again. The adventure trip returns to South Africa, where we enter the sprawling Zululand. This land was once the realm of King Shaka, who united the Zulu clan. The destination of this leg is the town of St. Lucia by the Indian Ocean on the east coast of South Africa.

Day 7: Hluhluwe–Umfolozi Game Reserve / iSimangaliso Wetland Park

In the early morning, we head out for a game drive in the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve. This is a reserve founded in 1895, covering an area of 960 square kilometers. Here, besides the Big Five, especially the endangered rhinos can be found. In the afternoon, a boat river safari on the St. Lucia River awaits, where hippos and crocodiles can be seen.

Day 8: Kwa Zulu Natal Coast – Drakensberg

After breakfast, the adventure journey continues along the Wild Coast, past Durban to the Drakensberg Mountains inland. The Drakensberg mountains are a majestic mountain range that reaches over 3,000 meters in height over a length of 1,000 kilometers. In this UNESCO World Heritage Site, we will stay for the next two nights. On the way, there is a stop to admire the Howick Falls and visit the town where Nelson Mandela was once arrested.

Day 9: UKhahlamba Drakensberg Park

After breakfast, a hike is planned for today. Due to the multitude of hiking trails, all travelers have the option to choose a hike that suits their level of difficulty. All travelers should be able to enjoy the mountain paradise at their own pace.

Day 10: Lesotho

After breakfast, our adventure journey continues over a mountain pass, through hills and mountains, until we reach our base located in Lesotho among the mountain peaks.

Day 11: Lesotho

Our morning is filled with the clean air of the mountains as we explore the surroundings. Ahead of us lies an extensive walk through the adventurous and breathtaking landscape of Lesotho.

Day 12: South Africa – Graaff Reinet

As part of our experience and safari trip, we leave another inland kingdom and return to South Africa. Today's destination is the city of Graaff-Reinet. This city is historically significant and is considered the 4th oldest city in the country. The city is known for its colonial architecture. Additionally, today we cross the Orange River (the longest river in South Africa with a significant ecosystem) and explore the vast Karoo. The Great Karoo is the heart of rural South Africa. Here, there is a diverse landscape consisting of barren hills, flat plateaus, and wide, dry riverbeds. In the evening, there is an opportunity to participate in a sundowner excursion to the Valley of Desolation.

Day 13: Addo Elephant National Park

After breakfast, the coast beckons us once again during our grand South Africa journey. On the way, we see the landscape and treasures of the Karoo pass by and reach Addo Elephant Park. The Addo Elephant Park has an area of 1,640 square kilometers and is one of South Africa's most famous national parks. In addition to elephants, numerous other African wildlife can be found here. After arrival, we head out on a half-day game drive to find the elephants that call the park their home.

Day 14: Addo Elephant National Park

After breakfast, another game drive in Addo Elephant Park is planned. The park is known not only for its abundance of animal species but also for its unique vegetation.

Day 15: Tsitsikamma National Park

After breakfast, another nature park calls us during our adventure journey. With a short stop in Jeffreys Bay, a place considered a surfer's paradise for its good waves and beautiful beach, we reach Tsitsikamma National Park. Tsitsikamma National Park is located along the Garden Route and is known for its diverse nature. Its landscape includes deep gorges, dense forests, rocky coastlines, rivers, and waterfalls. Its native wildlife includes numerous bird species and sea creatures such as whales, dolphins, and seals.

Day 16: Tsitsikamma National Park

After breakfast, we embark on a hike through the significant marine protected area of Tsitsikamma National Park. We will be on the Waterfall, a part of the world-famous Otter Trail. As this is not an easy hike, there is an option for travelers who prefer easier routes to use the promenades to Storms River Mouth. In the afternoon, there is the optional opportunity to book the Woodcutters Journey, where you can learn more about the history of the region as well as the native flora and fauna.

Day 17: Oudtshoorn

Today, our adventure journey calls us back from the inland of South Africa. After breakfast and a brief stop in the lively coastal town of Knysna, we travel over the Outeniqua Mountains to the town of Oudtshoorn. Here we visit the famous Cango Caves, where we participate in a guided tour to see the impressive formations that have formed in these limestone caves.

Day 18: Route 62 - Barrydale

After breakfast, more highlights of our exciting South Africa tour await us. First, we visit the cutest creatures on the African continent, the meerkats. You can watch them as they go about their day in nature without being disturbed by humans. Following that, we continue into the small Karoo (a region with predominantly dry vegetation), where we follow the scenic Route 62. While letting the landscape pass us by, we make a brief stop at farm stands where local farmers sell their homemade products, and at Ronnie's Sex Shop (which is actually not a sex shop, but quite an interesting country inn).

Day 19: Cape Whale Coast and Africa's southernmost tip

The end of our fascinating experience and safari journey in South Africa calls us. After leaving some of the picturesque villages in the hinterland behind, we reach Cape Agulhas. Cape Agulhas is the southernmost point of the African continent, and its history dates back to Portuguese sailors who sailed around the cape. We then continue along the fascinating Cape Whale Coast westward toward Cape Town. On the way, we try our luck with a brief stop in Hermanus at the promenade to spot some Southern Right whales (which are often seen in the bay from July to November). Before reaching our final destination of Cape Town, we also visit the largest breeding colony of African penguins, the Stony Point Nature Reserve. Our adventure journey then concludes in the heart of the exciting and vibrant metropolis of Cape Town.
